I’ve checked everywhere on this, but nothing has really addressed my situation. I keep getting this window: “Update Your Encryption Settings” - I enter my Master Password (WHICH IS CORRECT) but for some reason it continually fails. I’ve verified that I have the correct Master Password by logging into the web at: vault.bitwarden.com. How do I get rid of this error? What is going on that would cause this?
Make either an encrypted (password-protected!) or unencrypted JSON export – or unencrypted ZIP export – of your vault, before you proceed.
Then in the web vault you should either also see that “Update your encryption settings” – then enter your master password there and choose “Update settings”, as described here Encryption Key Deriviation | Bitwarden – or, if you don’t see that warning in the web vault for whatever reason, then go to Settings → Security → Keys and update your PBKDF2 encryption settings there to 600000 KDF iterations.
I think, if you would wait, your settings probably would update automatically in the near future – as there was a change with the latest Release Notes. – Honestly, I don’t know when you tried to log in to the web vault the last time, but that automatic update of your encryption settings might also be triggered when you log in to the web vault now… (so maybe, it would also be advisable to make an export right now, when you’re still logged in in one of the BW apps)
PS: If you still have login issues after changing the encryption settings, then make a fresh reinstall of that BW client/app (ideally, but not every step may be necessary: log out there → delete the local data of that app manually if necessary → deinstall it → restart your device → reinstall that BW app → log in again)
Perhaps you can change your KDF iterations in the web vault. Your other clients will be updated automatically, I guess. At least that is my understanding of the recent change. Encryption Key Deriviation | Bitwarden
Sorry for the delayed response. I actually connected with Bitwarden via their subreddit page - Bitwarden person (can’t remember his/her name) helped me out to resolve:
