I can't find out how to turn off the passkeys pop-up whenever I do a FIDO login

I get that “no passkeys” found prompt whenever I go to do a FIDO login and it’s incredibly frustrating. I use a YuibiKey and have no intention of ever using bitwarden for this functionality.
I can disable on a per-site/per-device level but there is no way to turn off the pop up for all sites. I am on version 2024.1.1 of the plugin and all posts say this was fixed in a 2023 version, am I missing something?

Thanks,
Nick

@NickNZ Welcome to the forum!

In your Bitwarden browser extension, go to Settings (:gear:), then Options, and uncheck the box for the “Ask to save and use passkeys” option:

This will completely disable Bitwarden’s passkey feature in your browser.

In Firefox on macOS this option is now under “Notifications” and there is no “General” group at all.

Thanks! Was going wild searching for this function. Should be in a more prominent place in the app/browser extension given how unpopular the feature is.

@Abe Welcome to the forum!

I think that the placement in the updated layout of the browser extension settings is reasonably prominent: It is the very first option under the Notifications section.

The passkey feature request had 165 votes, so I don’t think it’s accurate to call this function “unpopular”.

For anyone else having trouble with the passkey function–and I’ve read a lot of comments all over the web to this effect and hear it often from my colleagues–at least in Brave, turning off passkey is all the way at the bottom of the Bitwarden extension dropdown, in the Settings option, under the “Other” subheading, then under the “General” sub-subheading, about midway down. I agree with others. I don’t want my PW manager to ALSO be my 2FA. I’d like to keep those functions separate–which is why I bought and security key.

Glad I could find this thread.

This is outdated advice. If the above instructions still work for you, then you are using a deprecated version of the browser extension and need to update to a current version a.s.a.p.

no. it should be somewhere that allows for laymen to discover it and not spin in circles to find.

and in no universe is 165 votes with a user base of millions considered a popular feature.

Nope, using latest Firefox browser Bitwarden extension gotten from the Extension Store.

@Abe @ichi Perhaps you can show some screenshots of what you’re seeing. In the 2024.7.1 version of the browser extension, it is the very first option at the top of the “Notifications” settings:

It is definitely not “all the way at the bottom of the Bitwarden extension dropdown, in the Settings option, under the “Other” subheading, then under the “General” sub-subheading, about midway down”. Thus, I stand by my previous comment: if this is where the passkey option is found in your browser extension, then it is time for you to update your extension.
