yes i did read the documentation but I still cant get this to work as I think it should
I want to be able to start BW (Bitwarden) plugin in my chrome browser on macos
it always seems to want me to, initially, type in master password (yes it does stay logged for the amt of time i have selected once i do this) … if i read the docs correctly, once i sign in on the desktop app of BW on my mac, i should be able to use finger print signin for the plugin
To be clear, are you asking how to allow the biometric unlock to be used when you first unlock the browser extension after starting (or restarting) the Chrome browser? Can you confirm that the biometric unlock of the browser extension works as expected after you have first unlocked it the first time using your master password?
If your question is just related to the unlock behavior after restarting the browser, then open the browser extension options, and check whether the option “Ask for biometrics on launch” is enabled or disabled. Frankly, the documentation for this setting is a bit confusing, so I would suggest trying to toggle this option (disable it if it was enabled, or enable it if it was disabled) and checking of that made a difference.
yes, i would like to always use the biometric unlock (ie when i start/restart the chrome browser. i now see the biometric option you mentioned in the browser setting and have clicked it. lets see what happens
but just to be clear… i’d rather not start the macos app at all. can i just use chrome and safari extensions of Bitwarden and use biometric? i would be ok if i have to type password 1 time after reboot i suppose
As far as I understand, using biometric unlock in the browser extension does always require the desktop app to be running in the background. The desktop app has options to run minimized, though.
Hmm that seems like a small nuisance but better than typing pw srveral times a day. I will try it out today…now that i have set the bio option in browser. Thx
