How to share passwords ala LastPass

I’m a long-time user of Bitwarden (free) but have never quite figured out how to share passwords with my VAs. So I continue to use LastPass for that alone.

How does one do something similar with Bitwarden? And do I need to be on a Premium plan to do that?

One other note - the VAs change over time - since I work with several of them.

Your help is much appreciated.

TIA!

Hello Subir, and welcome to the community!

As far as I understand, with LastPass, you can share your credentials in an ad-hoc manner with another LastPass user, and they will remain in sync.

However, you cannot do that with Bitwarden. In BW, you can share credentials in a more structured way or on a one-time basis:

  1. Structured Sharing: You create an organization that includes yourself and the other person. Then, you create a collection with the appropriate permissions and add your credential entry to that collection. The entry remains in sync for both users. With a free or premium account, you can create just one organization with two members. The premium account does not offer any additional advantages in this regard over the free account. You can also use a family plan to share with up to five other people.
  2. One-Time Sharing: There is a “Send” feature that allows you to send a link with encrypted content to anyone. The passwords shared this way are not kept in sync.

BW is likely considering improvements to their sharing features, but they do not seem to be on the published roadmap at this time.

Thanks @Neuron5569

That was helpful. And a bit disheartening.

For the devs, if they’re listening, the advantage of LastPass is that it’s much faster to share access, then setting up and managing organizations.

And while someone can easily install chrome extensions and get the password, the non-tech savvy don’t. In fact 80% of my freelancers over the last 10 years haven’t. I know because they will complain - for example when the shared URL string is different than the page URL, or if the LastPass extension is not loading on some random day.

And for me it’s a far easier way to grant and revoke access - rather than manage organizations - and what logins are where etc.

For now, my strategy will be to keep using LastPass for sharing, until there’s a better alternative.
