I saw log in from another device when I was trying to log in on my android phone. When I tried to use it I see it states that it needs to be set up first. I found an article that tells how to use it, but I did not see instructions on how to set it up.
The instructions are here: Log in with Device | Bitwarden Help Center.
Basically, you need to first log in (using your master password) to both the initiating device and the approving device, and you need to refrain from deleting browser or app data for the Bitwarden apps and extensions that you wish to use for Login with Device. After logging out, you will be able to use Login with Device that next time that you log in.
If I understand correctly, to set it up you just log into the bitwarden app and/or extension on each device (done) and then once you have logged out of one of the devices the next time you go to log in you can select log in with device and it is supposed to show something on the other device for you to select “confirm login”. I have tried all of that, but never see the “confirm login” on my firefox bitwarden extension. I am initiating the log with device from the bitwarden app on my android phone.
Per the documentation linked above, only a mobile app or desktop app can be used as an approving device. So, you would have to first log in to a mobile or desktop app using your master password, after which you can approve logins into other apps or extensions.
So, if I am trying to “log in with device” from the app on my android phone and have that notification show up on my computer I need the app on my computer, not the extension in Firefox?
If I’ve understood what you’re asking, then yes.
If you want to use the “Login with Device” function to log in the Bitwarden mobile app on your Android phone, then you’d need to approve that login either from the Bitwarden Desktop app a computer, or from a Bitwarden mobile app on a second mobile device.
Thanks for your help. I guess when I read the first part “Log in normally to the initiating app (web vault, browser extension, desktop, or mobile app)”, my mind applied that to the next part when I read “Have a recognized account on an approving app (mobile or desktop app)” and it did not register with me that the browser extension was not supported. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks again.
No problem, glad that I could help clarify that for you.
