Help with login or do I have to start over?

For some reason I am no longer able to login to my vault. What are my options? Export from my device and start over?

When you still are logged in on at least one device, then stay logged in there and disconnect that device from the internet. Make a JSON or ZIP export in any case now (when it’s a JSON export, your attachments won’t get exported if you have any, so you’d have to do that manually).

But, if you lost your master password, you might not be able to make an export. In that case, you’d have to export manually in worst case (entry by entry…).

We would need more information to assess that. What are you trying? What does still work (like “I can enter email and master password, but I lost my 2FA”) – and what exactly doesn’t work? If you get an error message, what does it say?

If you want to look on your own, you could also have a look into this post:

PS: As you chose server:self-lite as a tag, could you please confirm (or deny) that you are self-hosting your Bitwarden server?

No actually that’s not correct as I login to bitwarden.com

Thanks. I now changed it then to server:default-cloud.

Correct I login to the cloud. I have access through my tablet and handset so I’m good for now but…

Yeah, sounds like if you would get logged out there unwillingly, you are in danger of losing your data.

So, if you want to proceed here, start with answering the previously posed questions.

I was only asked one question…which server

It won’t accept my master password. This is the issue.

These are the questions that we need answers to:

In the meantime, it would be best if you start copying your vault data manually, item by item.

If you happen to have a browser extension that is still logged in to your account, then you may be able to retrieve your vault data in a more efficient way. If you are going to check for this possibility, it is important to disconnect your device from the internet before launching the browser and opening the browser extension. If you find a browser extension that can be unlocked (e.g., using a PIN or biometrics), then you’re in luck — but make sure not to reconnect that device to the internet.

2FA is fine its a master password issue. So if I restore the system once I get all the most important passwords copied what is the next step? Delete the account and start over from there?

Yes, migrate your credentials to a new Bitwarden account, and when you’re ready, delete the original account using the link https://vault.bitwarden.com/#/recover-delete. If you have a Premium subscription, contact support to request that the subscription be credited to your new account.

What are you observing that leads you to that conclusion?

Did you check if the email address you use for login is correct (and has no typo etc.)?

Yes I’m doing it from within the app.

I’m not exactly sure what that is supposed to mean.
