Google Chrome website pages aren't loading while having Bitwarden extension enabled

I’ve never seen this issue before in several years of using Chrome, but I had to disable Bitwarden just to load webpages. Anyone else getting this error on their end?

@xearoii Welcome to the forum!

No, I do not experience this issue — none of the websites I visit fail to load in Chrome when the Bitwarden browser extension is enabled.

Could you provide one or more examples of websites that you are unable to load?

Thank you!

Weird, I honestly couldn’t get any website to load. I was doing my bill pay and I opened up multiple tabs none of which would load. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled chrome after trying to clear cookies/cache. I then got the same result as well.

Some websites I was testing were also wsj and Google. Google Gemini as well. Even after uninstalling/reinstalling chrome I went through and tried each extension one by one. Bitwarden was the only one that I could disable and get a website to load.

I also tried multiple computer restarts as well. I am on the latest Google Chrome and latest Bitwarden extension available via the extension store.

Might be a good idea to contact support to see if they can help you troubleshoot your system. Can you try it on a different browser?

In the Chrome browser, could you try adding one of the problematic domains to the extension’s block list (Settings > Autofill > Blocked Domains) and/or to the exclusions list (Settings> Notifications Exlcuded Domains), and check if either of those help?

I am running into the same issue, in both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. To note, this is only occuring on my laptop, my desktop is working perfectly. I’m not sure if there was an update to windows/other, but this has been an issue for roughly 48 hours now. When the extension is disabled/removed I run into no issues.

Same here.No webpages will load with Bitwarden enabled. Disabling it and restarting chrome – everything works.I have deleted and re-installed the extension. Also deleted my chrome cache, cookies, etc. Chrome 146.0.7680.178.Bitwarden 2026.2.0.

After several days of not working, now it works. Still on the same versions as before. This is on a corporate laptop so there is a possibility that something got fixed in the background by the IT department.

I’m experiencing the same issue. Latest chrome update version 147.0.7727.102. Latest windows 11 update.

Basically every time I enable bitwarden extension on chrome, chrome slows down to a crawl, freezes/hangs basically. It literally worked fine a few days ago.

But I also observes this behavior when enabling the built-in Google Docs Offline extension. Not all extensions cause this though. So, it’s not something unique to bitwarden extension, possibly a bug from chrome itself, chrome canary seems to have the same issue. But as you may know chrome/google support forum is not very helpful, and it doesn’t seem many people is experiencing this. Could be a hardware thing, I use slightly older thinkpad.

Hardly anyone reported this issue on the internet. I actually created this account to make a thread about it. There were 2 recent threads with comments about it on reddit. But not much discussion.

The desktop application still works fine.

Thanks all, the next release will include some performance fixes, but please share any additional information and steps to reproduce directly with the support team at: Help Center | Bitwarden so they can review further.

We’re also monitoring an upstream issue: Chromium

I followed the suggestion on a reddit thread to reinstall. And it works. No more slowdown. Could be just a coincidence. Since someone above reinstalled and it did nothing for that person.
