I am running Linux Mint 21 (Ubuntu 22.04). When I go to the Flatpak distribution in the Software Manager for Bitwarden it shows the version as 2023.3.0. Is there something I am missing? Why isn’t it at the current release? From the BW download page it appears Flatpak is the preferred method and should be updated.
@ScottGeiger Welcome to the forum!
Hm, I installed the current Linux Mint 22.1 recently myself and think the Bitwarden desktop app Flathub/Flatpak version was recent…
If you follow the Linux → Flatpak link here: Download the Bitwarden Password Manager App for iPhone, Android, Chrome, Safari, and More | Bitwarden , you get redirected to this link: Install Bitwarden on Linux | Flathub - and the version there is 2025.2.0 (today)…
Yes, it does show the current version on the webpage. However, what is downloaded is not an installer, it is a “ref link” which opens my local software manager. This is the version I see in my software manager for the flatpak install
Well, I have very limited experience with Linux (Mint), so I mostly speculate now:
I would think, that your local software manager (when it’s only showing 2023.3.0) is restricting that to an older Flathub version then.
I would probably make sure that
-
all software / apps / “drivers” etc. are up-to-date in your current Linux Mint 21 (I think you can activate even an automatic-update routine in Linux Mint - otherwise trigger it manually)
-
and I would think about upgrading your Linux Mint 21 to the current version 22.1 (Upgrades — Linux Mint User Guide documentation)
Thanks @Nail1684 - I was thinking the same, but wanted to see if others might have encountered this. I am not able to upgrade right now, but I have another laptop I can experiment with and see if it behaves differently. I’ll follow up here with my findings.
I’m using Linux Mint 22.1. When I install BW I’m getting version 2025.2.1.
I set up another laptop and I see 2025.2.x. The new laptop was a fresh install of Mint 21. The first one was an in-place upgrade from Mint 18.3 to Mint 21. I am wondering if the a source for the software manager didn’t get updated. I’ll have to dig around a little, but it looks like it’s specific to that laptop. Thanks for everyone that chimed in.
