"Exception message: Connection failure" on save

I have been using Bitwarden for a few months, since installing I have added several items, but not recently. In past few days I noticed this problem: Login and retrieval work, but when I try adding new item, or editing an existing one, on submit (“Save” button), I get an OkBox captioned: “An error has occurred.” with message “Exception message: Connection failure”, and the change or the new item is not saved/added.

Installation: Android 7, app version 2024.7.1 (11086)

Connection: either WiFi 2.4GHz, or mobile provider 3G

Cloud: vault.bitwarden.eu

Hello @salec and welcome to the community!

The problem you describe is usually solved by logging out and logging in again; it’s probably some states that become out of sync with the server. The way you do this on Android is:

  1. Open the app
  2. If you are prompted with Biometric unlock, click cancel.
  3. Click on the kebab icon (vertical 3-dot) on the top right, click Log out.

Try again and see if this works.

Cheers!

First, thanks Neuron5569, pleased to meet you.
Regarding the issue: unfortunately, now it is worse :worried: . Now I cannot enter the app again. When I try logging in, I get the same error I previously had when trying to save.
The error appears as soon as I enter my e-mail address. I suppose each transfer from app to server results in this.

I am sorry that didn’t work. Would you try these to help diagnose the problem:

  1. Log in to the Bitwarden web vault using a web browser on your Android device at Bitwarden Web Vault. This will help determine if you can connect to Bitwarden from your phone at all.
  2. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, try using your mobile data. If you are on mobile data, try switching to Wi-Fi. Make sure the other Wi-fi/mobile data is off when trying this.
  3. If the above doesn’t work, try clearing the application data. The instruction I found was on:
  1. If the above doesn’t work, try restarting your phone.
  2. If the above doesn’t work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the app.
  3. If the above doesn’t work and if you have another trusted Android device with a different OS version, try using that one.
  4. If the above doesn’t work, you may want to consider side-loading a previous version of BW (current one is 2024.7.1) from Releases · bitwarden/mobile · GitHub

I managed to connect to vault.bitwarden.eu with my credentials, over Wi-Fi.

I stopped the app, cleared cache and data and tried again, first with Wi-Fi, then repeated all that with mobile network. That didn’t do.

I reinstalled App and tried again. Again, the same error

Yeah, if you can’t try 7 & 8 above, I’d suggest you contact support to see if they have seen such a problem on Android 7.
