Hello, I tried importing a .csv file into my vault using the “Chrome (CSV) Instructions,” however I get an error message every time:
Any ideas as to why I can’t import passwords? Thank you!

@mcstrangelove Welcome to the forum!
Can you open the Chrome Passwords.csv
file in a text editor app, copy the first row of text in the file (which should show only column titles), and paste it here?
name,url,username,password,note
Try the following.
Create a copy of your Chrome Passwords.csv
file, then open the copied file in a spreadsheet app (e.g., Excel), and make the following changes in the first row:
url
to login_uri
(all lowercase; note that the last letter is an i
, not an l
);username
to login_username
(all lowercase);password
to login_password
(all lowercase);note
to notes
(all lowercase; note the s
as the last letter)type
, folder
, favorite
, fields
, reprompt
, login_totp
(all lowercase).Next, in the 6th column (just below the column header type
), paste the word login
(all lowercase) into each row that contains exported data.
Save the file, and now select the format “Bitwarden (csv)” when importing the new file into your vault.
That worked, thank you! I assume I should use those headers in the .csv file going forward?
You’re welcome — however, I’m not sure what you mean by “going forward”…
If you were able to successfully import your Chrome/Google passwords using the method I outlined, why do you still need to use the .csv file? If you have confirmed that the passwords were properly imported into your Bitwarden vault, the best thing to do is to delete the .csv files (so that they don’t get into the wrong hands).
