Code Contribution Proposal
Currently, searching for stored items in Bitwarden can be cumbersome, especially when managing a large number of entries. To improve usability and efficiency, I propose adding advanced search filters to refine search results and make it easier to find the necessary credentials without unrelated entries cluttering the results.
Proposed Search Filters:
- By Collection – Allow users to filter search results by specific collections, making it easier to locate credentials within shared or categorized groups.
- By Name – Enable searching by item name only, ignoring usernames, URLs, and other fields.
- By Domain – Provide an option to filter results by domain name, ensuring that users can quickly find credentials for specific websites.
- By Login Type – Allow filtering by entry type (e.g., login, note, card, identity) to reduce irrelevant results.
- By Last Used Date – Introduce a filter to sort or display entries based on their last usage, helping users find the most recently accessed credentials.
- By changing date – Useful for managing last password change and how long it has been changed before.
- By URL – Enable filtering by URL to quickly locate stored credentials linked to specific websites.
- By Notes – Allow searching within the notes field to find stored additional information associated with credentials.
And other possible filtering options.
Benefits of Implementing These Filters:
Improved Efficiency: Users can quickly locate the exact credentials they need.
Better Organization: Enhanced filtering options provide more control over stored data.
User-Friendly Experience: Less frustration when searching for specific logins, especially in large vaults.
Security Awareness: Filtering by last used or update can help users identify old, unused, or compromised credentials.
Would love to hear thoughts from the community and the Bitwarden team on this feature request.
