Hello, is there a way to either add or edit a “type” designation within an existing data vault entry? Thank you.
Hi @morganmusic, it is not currently possible to edit an item type after creation, but you can vote for this feature here.
Just voted for the feature change. Similar to other clients, I imported passwords from Ascendo DataVault and would now like to edit the entry type, but currently cannot do so in Bitwarden. I think a feature change to allow editing of the ‘type’ would be very helpful for users who covert from an existing password database to Bitwarden. Thank you.
Hi, I use Ascendo DataVault too. How did you import from DataVault?
Hello, I used the export feature in DataVault: export all to CSV. Be sure you’ve highlighted all your pwds in DataVault before you export. Then I followed the import instructions in Bitwarden. This will place all of your pwds into one big file in Bitwarden. There may be other ways to do the import, but this the process I used.
In Bitwarden, you can then create categories to further stratify and store your passwords by going into each pwd you imported and assigning a category. There will be some manual adjustments needed, but at least the bulk of your pwds should import fairly easily. Good luck!
The best way to assign the item type is to specify a value in the type
column of your CSV before importing. You can designate an item type as either login
or note
when using the Bitwarden (csv) format for importing.
