Edit existing custom field type

I’d like to request the ability to edit the type format of existing custom fields, for example changing an existing ‘Text’ type field into a ‘Hidden’ type field or vice versa.

As far as i am aware the only way to do this currently is to create a new ‘Hidden’ custom field and then manually transfer the field name and values over. This can be very time consuming and tedious especially if you have many logins which have multiple custom fields.

Voted up. I also requested this via email the other week before I knew of this community for filing and voting up feature requests. As someone who is a bit OCD about the order of my fields, this makes it difficult to do if I have several custom fields because if the one I want at the top is the one I want to now make hidden, I have to effectively recreate them all to shuffle them down accordingly. That’s another feature request in itself too - re-order fields. Time to go vote for that one now too. haha.

So easy to do and still not doing it.
Please implement this. Because your importing algorithm is really bad for at least 1password and last pass. A lot of fields are not correct and I would like to be able to change them.

I would like to be able to change the type of existing custom fields and move them (relative to each other). For example, I recently moved from another password manager, so many of the fields that should be hidden now are not hidden.

If you chose a wrong field type, there is no possibility to change e.g. from hidden to visible. Also fields should be moveable. Right now you need to delete and create new fields to get them in order. There has been a similar request (Feb 2019). I am posting this because it is an important feature to make life more comfortable.

Instead of adding a new request, you should vote in the other topic and add your comments there. This will probably have more impact. This is what a search for “change field type” comes up with:

I would like to see equivalent field type options to 1Password. When I imported my data from 1Password to Bitwarden, I got wonky values for all of my date fields.

For me Bitwarden imported date types from 1password as text.
The text field value is the number of seconds elapsed from 1970-01-01 00:00:00.

This was recently fixed in the .1pif-importer, by one of our community members to display a formatted date string: https://github.com/bitwarden/jslib/pull/569 and will be included in the next release.

Is it possible to un-archive this request? Change "type" of items is about the top-level item (ID/login/credit card) rather than custom fields belonging to a top-level item

As of today it’s already possible to move (reorder) custom fields

Can you provide functionality to change the field type when modifying an existing field?

@sigeshuo Welcome to the forum! I have moved your post into this thread, an existing feature request on the same topic.
