Edge (Android) not seeing BitWarden. Defaulting to MS and Google

Cant see this brought up before but im using MS Edge as a browser on Android. The issue i have is whenever i go to any site that needs a login the saved logins are from i believe MS password manager and passkey brings up Google password manager. (i then need to go into More Options… then select BW and i can use it).

In Android settings i have BitWarden set as my default passkey. In Autofill i have BitWarden selected (and both MS Authenticator and Google password manager unchecked/disabled).

In BW client itself i have “Autofill services” checked, set to Inline. I also have “Use Brave/Chome” autofill integration boxes ticked.

Keyboard used is Swiftkey.

In Edge itself in password manager, everything is unticked, no offer to save passwords, no auto sign in, no autofill for apps.

In Chrome and Brave this DOES work - i get a BW and only a BW popup for logins and passkeys. In Edge i seem to get MS and Google PM regardless of the fact they’re disabled everywhere i can see. Bit Warden does work but only via “More options…” for passkeys or deleting the autofilled text from the dialogs manually before it appears for normal logins.

Phone is a Android 16 Pixel 9 Pro. I get identical behaviour on my Galaxy Tab s5e running Android 15 (Lineage 22).

I’m having the exact same problem. BW works fine in my mobile Chrome browser. In Edge, its oddly hit and miss.

@gnirtS Welcome to the forum!

And Sorry for the delayed response.

I just tested on my Android 15 device with Edge to login to this forum. I can autofill username and password without any problem. Passkey-login opens Google password manager first (usual gateway), but BW takes over and logs me in with passkey.

I have no direct idea, what it could be in your case… but there is a new post about autofill on Android I just posted yesterday - maybe that could give you a hint: [Short Guide / Tips] Autofill on Android

PS: @JasonB the same goes for you…

I am also unable to git Bitwarden autofill working with Edge for Android on a Galaxy Tab S9+ on Android 15. Works perfectly in Brave and Chrome, does not offer autofill no matter what I try or combination of options enabled or disabled. I have the same behavior of Microsoft autofill jumping in first, even though I disabled every Microsoft password option available in Edge settings, and then nothing from Bitwarden either on the keyboard (tried Gboard and default keyboard) or the field, or anywhere.

Bitwarden set to default password service in Android settings, disabled all other password services and still cannot get a password autofill from Bitwarden.

@user206 Welcome to the forum!

For the record, use of browser extensions in Android is not officially supported, and may not always work as expected.

In my case I am using the Bitwarden from the official store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.x8bit.bitwarden) not a “mobile in-browser extension”.

It worked fine for all these years, now recently it’s detecting the app id com.microsoft.emmx (Edge) not the in-browser page URL [as it used to do] when autofilling. Don’t know what changed.

This indeed is a recent and new issue (and not the original issue of this thread):

Ah, and there is an update from a BW developer:

It seems, with Android app version 2025.11.0 there comes a fix for the bug I mentioned in my previous post here: a new Compatibility Mode for the affected browsers.

Here is a new Help Site entry for that Compatiblity Mode: [Edit: I removed the link now, as that Help Site section was removed now also – see the Update below] (essentially: if using Edge, Samsung Internet, Opera, then check Settings → Autofill → Use compatibility mode for browser autofill)

Update:
It seems, the new compatibility mode is only a temporary thing… Another “automatic” solution gets implemented and the compatibility mode will be removed with one of the next releases.
