DuckDuck extension or not for iMac?

I went through the installation process, downloading DDG from their own website that includes Mac integration.

I set it up, but it only seems to work when I have the Bitwarden application open and logged in. As soon as I close Bitwarden I can no longer access my passwords on DuckDuckGo.

This is not how Bitwarden works with Firefox or Chrome. With those browsers it’s an extension that is added to the browser, there’s an icon next to the address bar of any website that has its password saved to Bitwarden. The Bitwarden app does not need to be open, I just have to sign in to Bitwarden through the extension in the browser.

I’m assuming it doesn’t work the same way with DuckDuckGo? Bitwarden application must be open and logged in at all times for it to work with the DuckDuckGo browser?

Yes, the Bitwarden / DDG integration is based on the the BW desktop app. There is no BW extension for DDG. (BTW, are you able to install any extension on DDG? – I would be really curious myself, since DDG on Windows – still Beta… or Alpha?! – doesn’t even allow any extensions to be installed…)

Other than that, I don’t see the big difference here. The extensions also have to be unlocked for usage - with the BW/DDG integration, then the desktop app has to be unlocked for usage.

In case you didn’t know it, here the corresponding Help Site to the integration: https://bitwarden.com/help/duckduckgo-macos-browser-integration/

thanks, new to DDG so haven’t tried any extensions.
