Don't save passwords in incognito

I primarily use Bitwarden for myself, but also for work. I only sign into my work account on my work computer, but occasionally into my personal web vault in incognito. The issue is any time I sign into a site, it asks if I want to save my credentials.

While normally I wouldn’t mind and it is helpful, there are times where I don’t want this asked (i.e. at work). I cannot just blacklist domains either, as I have personal and work accounts for some.

My ask is simply to have an option to not ask to save passwords in incognito browsers. I’d imagine this is a simple thing to add in and would go a long way for myself and possibly others.

Thanks!

Not quite the same as what you are asking, but Chrome and Firefox both have a setting to completely disable the use of an extension in incognito. Go into your extensions page, click on “Details” for the Bitwarden and the setting is on that page.

Also possible is to create two browser profiles, install Bitwarden in both and adjust the settings to your preference in each profile. Most settings do not sync to other instances of the vault.

I’m having trouble understanding what is happening above. If it is an account that is already saved in your vault, and if your browser extension is unlocked, and if you are not modifying the username or password (e.g., you are autofilling the login form and not making any changes), then Bitwarden should not be prompting you to save the credentials, AFAIK.

I see that as a possible solution, however I do sometimes use the extension in incognito, so that wouldn’t really be suitable for me. I use incognito intentionally to prevent saved sessions once I’m done, so alternate profiles wouldn’t cut it either (I know I can change some settings on them but incognito is just easier to manage personally).

It’s not in the vault, it’s in a different vault. They are separate for a reason.

Maybe I’m just being slow today, but I’m still not understanding your set-up. I’ll defer to @DenBesten to assist you.

I use the browser extension for my work related accounts, and the web vault in incognito for personal accounts. Some websites have accounts in both vaults (ex. Amazon, Google, etc.), and there are (rare) times I am signing into work related accounts in incognito sessions (ex. testing).

In other words, my main browser session is work only, while incognito might be work or personal, depending on the need. Hence the ask to not save passwords in incognito mode (don’t want personal sessions saved in work vault), but still allow autofill. I would also still like the ask to save in the main browser session as it would be work related accounts only saving to the work vault.

I may end up just making a separate user session in the browser with separate settings, but I don’t know if that will be feasible long term (could theoretically get blocked) and might get confusing when using (I’m not used to doing that, but I’m used to using incognito).
