I was wondering if Bitwarden has a very useful feature from LastPass, the Identities, I was looking into Bitwarden interface but I couldn’t find something like it, except by Organizations, but these are limited to share passwords with other users and not for manage identities.
I was wondering about create the kind of identities that uses LastPass to classify every single item stored in te vault. In LastPass when I choose an identity, all items related with it are shown and I can switch from one identity to another, this helps me to keep my personal credentials separated from my work credentials; when I choose work identity only work credentials are shown, and so on.
There is a way to get this behavior in Bitwarden, best regards.
I’m not sure if it is OK to reply to such old topics.
But this topic is still relevant for me. Still, the feature request is that Bitwarden provides a function that is called “Identities” in LastPass.
I come from LastPass Premium and would like to switch to Bitwarden Premium. In LastPass I used their “Identities” very intensively and am currently trying to do the same with Bitwarden. Unfortunately Bitwarden does not have such “Identities” as LastPass, the closest is “Vaults” or “Collections”. Other password managers such as Enpass also have multiple Vaults. How can I do this with Bitwarden Premium?
PLEASE do NOT mix up LastPass “Identities” with “Identity” as an entry type. It’s a completely different thing.
I have never used Lastpass and never will, so it would be immensely helpful if you could provide a description of what their “Identities” feature actually does.
If we have to base our responses on speculation and conjecture, the information we provide is not likely going to be very relevant.
@grb “Identities” in LastPass means this:
You can make a kind of subdivision within a single password vault: E.g. “Work”, “Home”, “Hobby”, “Finance”, “Wife’s logins”, “Rare used logins”, “Special logins” and so on.
You can then assign password entries to one or more of these subdivisions.
The special thing is that you can then select one of these subdivisions in the browser app, and only passwords from this subdivision are then displayed in the fill-in pop-up.
If you autofill by opening the browser extension pop-up window, then you can achieve a similar effect by filtering (e.g., assign each login item to a folder, and then filter by folder), although as of now, filters are not persistent when the browser extension window is closed and re-opened (i.e., you would have to filter again each time that you want to autofill).
Other than that, the only feature that Bitwarden has that is remotely close to what you are describing (i.e., restricting the autofill suggestions that appear in an inline autofill menu) would be account switching. This means that you would need a separate Bitwarden account for each password grouping (“identity”), and then you can use the browser extension’s account switcher to select which account is active. Unfortunately, Bitwarden’s terms of use only permit a person to have one free account, so you would have to pay additional subscription fees to set up each “identity”:
I just stumbled upon this Feature Request and that reminded me of this topic here:
Though, this Feature Request is more about a security aspect and not about different autofill profiles per se. So, not the same request, but somewhat related to it.
