A Clipboard manager is a valuable tool. On Windows, there are a few options. However, it is important that the clipboard manager can exclude the desktop Bitwarden app, and would be great if it could also exclude the browser extension as well. Bitwarden will clear the Windows clipboard, but that is useless if the manager retains the username and password.
Is there a clipboard manager that works safely with Bitwarden?
The native Windows clipboard manager, i.e. ⊞ Win+v, seems to work OK with the Desktop app, i.e. BW does something so that the manager doesn’t save a history of copied passwords there, and will clear the current one after expiring. The manager will save passwords from copying from the extension, though.
That is great to know. Thank you. It means it can be done. However, Microsoft’s clipboard manager holds the clipboard contents on Microsoft’s servers for Microsoft’s use. The notion that everything I clip gets sent to Microsoft is a little much for me. I want a clipboard manager that stays local.
AFAIK, unless you enable the sync Windows clipboard (across your devices), your clipboard contents stay local. Otherwise, I’d imagine people being in a big uproar because clipboard contents can contain very sensitive information.
BW had to do something very platform specific to get the Windows clipboard history not to save passwords, even after people had been complaining for a long while, so I can’t imagine they will be in a rush to do this for specific clipboard managers.
It is conceivable you are correct. I don’t KNOW. Just not in character for Microsoft to leave anything on our computers and not take it unless disabled. But, last I heard their clipboard history (which I would have disabled), ls limited to 25 items. Things I need for a manager are:
Groups for permanent snippets
Permanent storage of at least 100 snippets
temporary for 50 to 100 snippets
Search
Editing
Some replace functions, like preceding spaces.
I’m sure there is more. But I really want a clipboard manager. In case there are those reading this who suggest I just get a note manager, I have one with over 3,000 notes. This is for mini stuff and clipboard, and automatic clips.
