@drctillerjr Welcome to the forum!
If you delete a collection, then you first need to ensure that all items stored in that collection are assigned to at least one other collection. If not, then the items become “Unassigned” when you delete their collection, which means that no one will be able to see the items anymore in their Bitwarden apps (only the Family Plan owner/admin will be able to access the unassigned items by going into the Admin Console after logging in to the Web Vault).
Can you explain in a little more detail what you are trying to accomplish? If you want every family member to have the ability to view, use, edit, delete, and add passwords (or other shared vault items) that will be shared among all members, then you will need to place all such shared vault items into one or more collections, and set up the access permissions for those collections so that every family member has “Can Manage” access.
Hello grb,
You are correct my only two family members will have the same access I have, so that is why I was asking if I even need a collection could we just use the folder option if we wanted?
Thanks
No, a folder is a just container for organizing items that you (individually) have access to when you are logged in to your individual account; a folder is similar to a tag, expect that you cannot associate an item with more than one folder. Other family members have no ability to access any items stored in your individual vault, so the only way to share items with them is to assign the shared items to a collection. Once the items have been placed inside a collection, and the other family members have been given access permissions to that collection, then they could (optionally) create their own folders as a way of organizing the shared items that they have access to. They will not see any of your folders, and you will not see any of their folders.
I’d just give all of them my username and password to bitwarden if you really want all of them to have complete access. But I’m not too be listened to
@Kenmoffat That might be possible in theory, but anybody who attempts it should be aware that it is expressly prohibited by Bitwarden’s Terms of Service:
B.2(iv). Your login may only be used by one person — i.e., a single login may not be shared by multiple people.
Thank you for the GREAT explanation grb !
Sorry, I did not know that! Indeed, I should not be listened to!
You’re welcome, glad I could help!
