I just downloaded the Chrome extension to have Bitwarden takeover for Google Password Manager. I’d really like to be able to use Fingerprint recognition, but I am totally confused by instructions that don’t look like the dialog boxes I have on my macOS (Sequoia), and I see videos where they are telling me to open the desktop app, but I only have a Chrome bookmark to a web Portal for my account. The “Biometrics” link. I see no “Unlock with Touch ID” or “Ask for Touch ID on App start” check boxes.
So I need a little understanding, and the “Enable Biometrics” link that came with my “Welcome to Bitwarden” email is confusing as well.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
@Kevponce Welcome to the forum!
To use biometrics in your browser extension, you also need to install the Bitwarden “Dekstop app”, which you can download here:
So the Chrome Extension is telling me it is awaiting confirmation from the Desktop App. I have Unlock with Touch ID and Ask for Touch ID on app start both clicked. And the only other button that seems to have any bearing is Allow Browser integration, and when I click that it says it is only supported on the Mac App Store version for now. So is it me? What am I missing?
Yep, on MacOS, only the App Store version works for biometrics.
(–> Unlock With Biometrics | Bitwarden)
PS: When you have that installed, make sure to set up biometric unlock for the desktop app itself first before setting it up for the browser extension.
Bummer. Any idea if they are working on that? Thanks for the update. I guess I am gonna know my Master Password by heart in no time at all. Lol.
Hu? Why don’t you just use the BW App Store version of the desktop app?
