Deleting an Organization

I don’t recall creating an Organization for my personal account but I did and I’d like to remove it.

This seems like a simple operation yet I can’t find anything in the forums or r/Bitwarden about how to do it.

So, how do I remove/delete an Organization?

Yes, you can delete an organization, but it is a bit hard to find. Try this:

  • In a browser, open your web vault interface at https://vault.bitwarden.com
  • In the blue menu bar at the top, select Organizations
  • Click on the Settings tab
  • Down at the bottom of the page, in the Danger Zone section, click Delete Organization

Cheers!

That worked perfectly. Thank you very much.

I am unable to delete the Organisation.
There is no blue button for Organisation.
When I select the vault of the organisation to be deleted’s vertical ellipse, I select option Leave. An error has occurred. Organisation must have at least one confirmed owner.

That option now is under “Admin Console”.

Admin Console opens a Finance collections?
I see no option to delete the Finance organisation?
I am unclear what the Default collection and Unassigned Names contain within?
Very nervous about losing credentials.

Trust those instincts. It is best to create a backup of all your vaults before doing anything “big”, such as deleting an organization, changing your master password, reorganizing your vault, deleting obsolete entries, etc.

Admin Console shows me the screenshot below…I don’t see any Organisation to delete?
The Name Default collection contains all finance credentials.
The Name Unassigned contains nothing?

I just need to log in and see non finance credentials, select Finance to see Finance only credentials (haven’t figured out if this is a folder, organisation, collection or something else yet?)

It’s under Settings >> Organization Info >> Danger Zone >> Delete Organization.

Under Settings is also “Export Vault”. You might want to first use it to create a backup as deleting an organization will result in loss of the organization’s vault and all the passwords contained within.

Incidentally, “collections” are groups of people/members. Collections are an access-control thing, used to determine who can view/edit individual vault entries (usernames/passwords). They are not a concept in your “My Vault” because it has only a single person/member.

This statement causes me pause. Are the finance credentials obsolete and you want to delete them? Or, do you just want to hide them from your view when you are not using them? If the latter, don’t follow the above. Instead, click on “My vault” instead of "All vault"s to limit the scope of your search.

@kotgc May I recommend that you keep your questions in your own forum topic that was created for this purpose (unless you have unrelated questions on a new topic about something completely different from organising and sharing vault contents)?

Posting the same types of questions in multiple locations in the forum will just lead to confusion for people who are trying to help you, and for yourself (as you may get responses that might appear to conflict with each other, or responses that are inaccurate because they were given without knowledge of context that was provided in a completely different forum thread).
