- Data Residency
With the ongoing push for privacy between different countries (e.g. Canada, Europe) many govts are requiring data residency of sensitive information to be stored on home soil.
Because BitWarden stores their data in the Microsoft Azure cloud, which already has support for choosing a data center location in these countries, my understanding is that it shouldn’t be too difficult to offer a ‘data residency’ feature in Bitwarden.
While I understand you can control your data with self-hosting, offering a Data Residency option under the subscription plans could provide an advantage of flexibility for clients under the BitWarden subscription option, which in my opinion is superior to self-hosting from an administration perspective (and would also provide a superior option for users that don’t have the resources / technical knowledge to self-host securely).
