I have a login for a website that requires username, password, and school ID. I thought I could save the school ID as a custom Linked field and have it autofill. But it seems all I can do with a Linked field is tie an HTML id back to a username or password. Is there a way for me to have Bitwarden fill in this school ID field (HTML ID is ‘sid’)? Thanks!
@taterhead247 Welcome to the forum!
You should be able to just create a custom field (“+Add field”), specify the field type as “Text” (not “Linked”), set the field label to sid, and then enter the school ID into the field value. If you need additional assistance, please provide the URL to the login form in question.
Oh wow! I didn’t know you could do it that way. I tried it. And now I think there’s a larger issue ![]()
When I try to autofill, I just get this error.
You are right: unfortunately, whoever developed that website put in features that prevent the use of password managers for autofilling the credentials. Your only recourse will be copy & paste, or — preferably — drag & drop.
You might also consider submitting Bitwarden’s Autofill Failure Report form, in the hopes that developers will be able to figure out some method to autofill this page:
So many features and services I didn’t know about! Thanks so much for your help.
Glad I was able to help. Feel free to post additional questions, if you want to learn more about how to work with the Bitwarden extension and apps.
Here’s a post I wrote to describe various autofill techniques available in Bitwarden:
Other than that, probably the most important feature to know about as a new user, is the ability to adjust the “URI Match Detection” methods. If you have problems with the extension’s “Autofill Suggestions” list containing too many irrelevant login items (or conversely, missing relevant login credentials that should be available in the list), then the solution will usually involve modifying the “URI Match Detection” settings. An explanation of match detection is available here:
