Chrome extension - one laptop has different behavior upon logging in to the extension

Hi, I did a search on this and didn’t find a related question.

I have the bitwarden chrome extension installed on several devices (both Windows and Linux). All of the devices except one ask for the master password when I click on the extension.

One Windows laptop asks for the username - it’s pre-filled, with the cursor sitting at the end of the username. Since I’m used to entering the password right away, I occasionally enter my password in the username field on this one laptop, it’s a cleartext field which is bad…

I couldn’t find a setting that allows me to change this behavior. Has anyone experienced this? I hope my question is clear. Thanks in advance for any help.

@rabbott Welcome to the forum!

Those devices probably are “locked” and show “Your vault is locked” – and you can use your master password to unlock. Can you confirm?

There, you’re probably “logged out” and the prompt shows “Log in to Bitwarden” – therefore you have to enter email and master password to log in again. In that extension, go to Settings → Account security, and change the session timeout to “Lock”. Then you should see the same behaviour as on your other devices.

Locking/unlocking and logging out/logging in are not the same thing with Bitwarden…

PS:

That “pre-fill” is probably done by your browser – see this discussion: Remove useless information

Aha! Thank you for the response. I found that on this particular device the “Timeout Action” was set to “Log Out”. I changed to “Lock” and it’s behaving now. Thanks again!
