Most apps like Firefox, WhatsApp,Telegram etc have this feature within the app.
I do second this too (and I just voted for it). But the feature request should have a wider scope: one could also be able to switfly change the language in browser extensions.
(I’m a new user… and being unable to change the language is the biggest drawback in my daily use of BW).
I would also really like this!
Some translations just aren’t as clear as the english version / sometimes it doesn’t make sense to translate some words like “host” from english to another language.
New Bitwarden user. Recent open source lover too. Seeing my native language in an app like Bitwarden makes me annoyed to the point, that I consider changing my system language only for this reason. For some reason it is not the only time I have seen open source software follow system language only.
To be clear, there is a setting available in the Desktop app and in the Web Vault app to change the language.
Furthermore, in the mobile app and browser extension, the language will match the language setting for the browser, not the system language. Instructions are available for changing the browser language in the Chrome-based browsers and in Firefox.
P.S. I will change the tags of this feature request to restrict the scope to browser extensions and mobile.
There are several cases we need to use an other language that the one of our browser’s or our OS’s. Therefore, it would be helpful to add the Language choice to the Browser Extension and offer us the choice of the language.
Desktop, Web vault and Mobile versions are already offering it.
Users might switch their browser language to another because they want websites to show the language to them by default, and/or the browser have no or poor support for their language but Bitwarden’s translation might be better, so users might want to use another language for Bitwarden extension. So I think it’s a good idea to add a option for users to set languages manually, which will be defaulted to follow browser language setting.
I agree with this suggestion. Before the language and localization features are fully developed, forcibly promoting new features may cause existing features to become ineffective. Traditional Chinese users should have a deep understanding of this, such as issues #12933, #6821, #5220, and perhaps even more? This type of issue has been troubling us for over a year.
Having an additional option can also improve this situation. This is merely a compromise solution for backup purposes.
