Can't remember the password even with password hint ...I need a solution

Hi

I can’t login even if with password hint. Also I do not remember the site eu vs us?

I activated the biometric login on my phone but once I wanted to login with password I can’t go back to biometrics.

It is really frustrating not to have any alternative.

The .com or the .eu cloud you requested a password hint email from is the one that has your account. If you’re getting hint emails from BOTH, then you have accounts on both clouds.

Once you’re logged out, you can still sign in without remembering your password by using:

  • “Login with Device” if any other client is still logged in
  • Passkey login (with encryption), but ONLY if you had set one up before
  • Emergency contact access, but ONLY if you had set one up before

If no device is logged in and you didn’t set up a passkey, the ONLY option is to remember your password however you can. This community guide may help jog your memory:

@MihaiHMO Okay, please read carefully now:

  1. If you are still logged in with any BW app: disconnect that device from the internet and copy all your vault items manually! (without the master password, you can’t make an export)

  2. Did you ever export your vault? Now would be the time you probably need it.

  3. Without your master password, you essentially lost your account now! There is no way to circumvent or reset your master password now. (the latter one would require the knowledge of your current master password)

  4. Biometric unlock is not a login method. Therefore it’s not possible to login with biometrics – apart from passkeys/FIDO2.

  5. Speaking of passkeys… did you ever set up a “login with passkeys”-passkey with encryption for your BW account? With that, you could at least log in now without the master password.

  6. Did you ever set up emergency access? If yes, now would be the time to use it.

  7. Regarding US/.com vs. EU/.eu cloud: in doubt, just try it on both server regions. (if you are still logged in, it should show the server region in the app)

PS: Did you ever use more than one BW client/app? Then Login with device might also still be possible.

Hi ,

Unfortunately I did not used more then one BW app/client. Just the one on an Android phone. I did not knew about the other methods (you study them just at the first fault :slight_smile: ) and also did not thought that I can recover the password from password hint. ANd just trying on US and EU sites make it more difficult .

Third I did not thought that I can’t use the biometrics .

I will delete the account .

@MihaiHMO When or if you start anew: make sure to create an emergency sheet for your BW account this time. – It should at least contain your email address, master password, BW server region and 2FA recovery code when you set up 2FA.

Also consider making regular (or at least every now and then) exports of your BW vault.

Lesson 1 - write down your master password and keep it in a secure and safe location.

Lesson 2 - write down your MFA recovery code.
Lesson 3 - write down the email address you used and the creds required to login to it.

Easiest way to capture all this and more is to start with one of the many “Bitwarden” Emergency Sheets and stash it somewhere safe.
