Can't Make Bitwarden your default password manager

Title says it all.

I want to do that but there’s no option for it inside bitwarden settings. I’m using firefox and its saving passwords function is disabled

If you turn off “Ask to save passwords” in Firefox and install the Bitwarden extension, you should be able to use Bitwarden to fill in your credentials. There’s no requirement or option to explicitly set it as the default password manager.

Once you can access Bitwarden’s functions reliably, don’t forget to delete any passwords you still have in Firefox; otherwise, that could continue to be an attack surface for malware.

@vjb89 Welcome to the forum!

Have you tried enabling the second option under Settings > Autofill?

Hi, thank you

Actually that’s the problem. I don’t have this option

Ok then. I’ll just leave it like this

Thanks

Which version of the browser extension do you have installed?

Hi! I have the same issue too: the Bitwarden extension encourage me to disable the native password manager in Firefox, even when it already is, and doesn’t show the option to set Bitwarden as the default password manager.

I tested it on both vanilla Firefox and Librewolf, with the same results. In Chromium browsers it works as intended. The KeePassXC extension can be set as the default password manager with no problem, so the problem is between Firefox and the Bitwarden extension.

My OS is Fedora Linux. I don’t know if this happens in other distros or Windows.

Did you uncheck all the options, like shown in the Help Sites: Deactivate My Browser's Built-in Password Manager | Bitwarden ?

Yes, I unchecked all the options before installing the extension.

I also disabled every other extension just to make sure they weren’t interfering with the browser. But I still can’t set Bitwarden as the main password manager.
