Can't log into Windows Desktop app

Does anyone know if the Windows Desktop app works? When I launch it, I get the same thing as the home landing page for the website, and when I click “Log In” it opens the browser and logs me in on the browser. Does this app even work? I figured it would log into my account and retrieve my passwords with a desktop experience, not be a shortcut to link me to the website…

Yes it works. You enter username etc and login.

This is what I get when I launch it. It’s a windows app, not a browser.

That’s not what I get. When I click the Log In in the upper right corner, it opens a new tab in my browser.

But you launch the desktop app from the start menu? The browser is not involved.
I’m wondering if you’re login in to the web vault and not the desktop app.

Hmm, I think the mystery is solved. I am running from the Start menu, for sure, and it has the BW shield logo. However, I downloaded and installed the Desktop app just now and ran it again, now it works. I can only think that somehow it wasn’t the desktop app, but somehow opened up a browser window that didn’t look like a browser window? And somehow I “forgot” that I didn’t install the desktop app? I don’t know, too much going on and too confusing. But I did for 100% sure install the Desktop app just now, and it launches and logs in.

For example, here is my Start menu. Looks legit, right? But brings up a window where the LogIn takes me to a new web browser tab. The blue logo one is the Desktop app I just installed.

Yes, if you click open then that is the desktop app.

It does take a while to become used to everything, maybe a month or so.
I mainly use BW via the browser extensions, I only use the desktop app as a backup,

Yeah, same here. I’ve been using browser plugins and mobile app for years, but thought I would use the desktop app for use cases where I was storing application logins not accessible through the browser.

@jimer3 Welcome to the forum!

Instead of using search, open the Start Menu and click All Apps, then scroll down until you find that gray :shield:  icon (the one that does not open the actual desktop app). Then, right-click the icon and select More > Open file location. This should open your File Explorer to the location of the actual shortcut being used when you click that icon. In the File Explorer, right-click the shortcut, and select Properties, and in the “Properties” window that opens, select the tab labeled Shortcut. Look for the field named “Target”. What is the value of that field?
