Since few days ago I am not able to delete items in “My Organization”, from browser extensions. I am able to do it from web-vault.
I think something have changed in the browser extension side and there is maybe a bug. I have self-hosted solution and I didn’t change anything since 6 months ago, so I guess the problem it’s in extension bug side.
Following official manual Collection management | Bitwarden Help Center I should be able to modify some options in Admin Console on the Settings → Organization, but I can only modify the name and email. That’s all. I can’t modify “Owners and admins can manage all collections and items” to fix this.
Just to summarize, from browser extension:
My Vault
item A (I can delete it)
My Organization
item B (I can NOT delete it)
item C (I can NOT delete it)
From web-vault, I can do everything.
Regarding Collections, in the Admin Console → Members → Member → Collections I am the Ownership (top permission role). I have tried to edit and add specific Edit permission for each collection. It didn’t work.
Please post a screenshot of your Admin Dashboard so that we can see the version of your server and web vault.
PS:
Well, as the server and the clients interact with each other, it could be both. (e.g. new client versions can become “incompatible” with older server versions)
I’m having the same issue, but using the Bitwarden hosted. I looked under the admin console on the web under collections and it was set to Can Edit. I’ve never changed this before, and I was the one to create the collection so not sure why it was set to only Can Edit. I changed it to Can Manage and it’s now allowing me to delete items again.
I believe that the behavior with regards to delete permissions may have been changed at some point last year (there was a redesign of the permissions functionality for organizations).
Thank you, this is the exact problem! However I can’t modify permission to “Can Manage”. All of them are “Can Edit” only. Can you please point me?
I am the ownership of Organization & Server and I was the creator of these Collections. How can I recover access? I can’t edit myself. Thank you
by the way I can’t edit my Organization to enable " Owners and admins can manage all collections and items" if I go to Admin Console → Settings → Organization info
I’m Sorry, but we have to close your thread, as you’re using Vaultwarden and not Bitwarden.
Vaultwarden is not supported by Bitwarden, as it is an independent product. From time to time, there will be compatibility issues between the official Bitwarden client apps and the Vaultwarden server, when Bitwarden implements changes to its own server software (which have not yet been mimicked by the Vaultwarden devs).
It is generally not possible for members of the Bitwarden community (users or developers) to help with such issues, but Vaultwarden has its own community spaces where you can seek support:
Vaultwarden developers have clarified their position on providing support for Bitwarden client incompatibility issues in the notice at the top of the Vaultwarden project’s GitHub README:
