I can not access the security settings for the Safari Bitwarden extension. When I try it pops up a dialog asking for my keychain login password. When I put in my keychain password it does not accept it. I know I’m using the correct password as I can open the Mac keychain using that password. Not only does it not accept the password, I can not close that dialog until I close the browser. Then the dialog stays open but closes when I put in my keychain password
@edbro Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to peer over your shoulder remotely, so you will have to provide some additional information:
What kind of “security settings” are you trying to access? The unlock and timeout options for the browser extension are found under Settings > Account Security — is this what you’re having trouble accessing?
Exactly what steps are you taking when you “try”?
Who is “it”? Can you post a screenshot or otherwise describe the source of this pop-up?
What is the exact wording of the error message?
Per your description, the keychain password was rejected while you had the browser open, but what happens when you put in your keychain password after the browser has closed? Is the password accepted, or do you see another error message?
I am trying to access the security settings by clicking on the Bitwarden Safari extension and then selecting Account Security.
When I put my Mac keychain login password the dialog does not accept it. I get no error message other than the dialog flashing back to empty field. I can not remove the dialog unless I close the browser. When I close the browser the dialog remains in the foreground but I can close it by putting in my keychain password as it seems to accept it then.
Seems that your description of what you’re doing may have skipped some steps. If you click on the Bitwarden browser extension icon, the browser extension pop-up will open to the “Vault” view (as shown in the screenshot below); in this view, “selecting Account Security” is not possible:
Thus, presumably you also clicked on
Settings before seeing the keychain prompt. Is this correct?
Did you also click on anything else before the keychain prompt appeared? If so, what else did you click, and at what point did the pop-up appear?
Yes, the vault view opens first. I enter my master BW password and I’m seeing my vault. I then click on Settings in the bottom right corner of the extension. Then I click on Account Security. That takes me to the screenshot I posted above.
After typing in your keychain login password, are you pressing the return key on your keyboard, or are you clicking one of the three options shown below the password field? If you weren’t previously doing so, please try clicking “Always Allow” after entering the password.
Are you trying to set up biometric unlock for your extension? Have you previously enabled biometric unlock in the Desktop app?
I do have “Unlock with Touch ID” set in the desktop app settings.
I think I was simply hitting the return key after putting in my keychain password. I thought “Allow” was highlighted but I can’t be sure. After clicking on “Always Allow” as you suggested, the password was accepted. Thank you so much for your help.
Glad I could help.
