Cannot login in firefox or chrome browser extension

My browser extension on both chrome and firefox stopped working last week out of nowhere. Currently the extension is greyed out as I am logged out. When I try to login, I enter my username and password. I get asked for the 2 FA code, which I enter. The thing just closes and I am back to the beginning as if I never logged in. Same happens on chrome too.

So far i have tried

- uninstalling and reinstalling browser extensions from the firefox and chrome store

- logged in onto the vault on browser and the desktop app to verify I can access the vault and its not a password issue. Its not and I can access them both

- restarted the browser and the computer

- I have also verified I am logging into “bitwarden.com” and not one of the other ones

Any ideas or questions? This whole copy pasting password is getting very annoying and I am too old for this â– â– â– â– .

Thanks!

@rajanarch Welcome to the forum!

Could you please try that again, but before you reinstall the extensions, this time make sure that the local data of the extensions was deleted. (i.e. if it didn’t happen automatically, then delete the folders manually)

Sorry. Not techsavvy. Do you have a step-by-step guide I can follow?

@rajanarch I’ll try:

  1. Uninstall the browser extensions (Firefox and Chrome).

  2. Assuming you are on Windows…

    1. Firefox: search for this folder: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your_profile\storage\default\moz-extension+++[UUID]^userContextId=[integer] and check whether it is still existing → if it is there, then delete that folder

    2. Chrome: search for this folder: %LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\nngceckbapebfimnlniiiahkandclblb and check whether it is still existing → if it is there, then delete that folder

      • (In Chromium browsers, Default represents the name of a browser profile. If you’ve installed Bitwarden under a different profile, substitute that profile’s name in the path.)
  3. Reinstall the BW extensions.

  4. Try to log in again.

I tried what you recommended

Firefox

I looked for the folder and got an error msg to check spelling and try again. Out of curiosity, I tried accessing %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your_profile\storage\ and got the same error still

Chrome

The folder dint exist. But %LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\ did exist. So, I reinstalled and logged in. Issue still persists. The extension logged me out again. Though I keep getting email from BW about a new login on chrome

Anything else I should try?

Firefox makes things difficult. To locate your browser extension data folder, first enter about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox in your Firefox address bar, then note the value of the “Internal UUID” for the Bitwarden Password Manager extension. Next, in Windows File Explorer, go to %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and find your profile folder, then open the storage subfolder within your profile folder, and then the default subfolder from there (i.e.,
%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[your_profile]\storage\default\ — where [your_profile] is your profile folder). Finally, look for one (or more) subfolders named moz-extension+++[UUID]^userContextId=[integer] (where [UUID] is the Bitwarden extension’s internal UUID (which you looked up in the first step described above), and [integer] is some random integer).

For example, the full path might look something like the following:

C:\Users\rajanarch\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\nq8xqivs.default-release\storage\defaultmoz-extension+++0b0c9851-ea95-c83f-c505-badb61f65a2c^userContextId=3870191721

So, you get logged out directly, as described in your first post?

What Windows version are you using?
And what versions of Chrome and Firefox?

2 posts were split to a new topic: Network error - Firefox extensions on MacOS

I did absolutely nothing else but the issue has somehow resolved itself. I was all ready to record it with a screen recorder this time though…

Thank you for all your help!
