BW dangerous app / autofill banking

Hi!
Since 3 weeks I’m facing issues with BW on Android 11.
I use Brave Browser and BW together for years, but all of the sudden autofill stopped working even though it worked fine for years.

I reinstalled BW but now my banking app and another app to identify myself (MobilBankID) both identify BW as a dangerous app and they don’t work until I stop autofill in BW completely.

I’ve tried to edit flags in Brave to get autofill on the screen again, but nothing works. And only if I turn off BW, I’m able to log in to my banking app again or use mobilbankID.

Is that a known issue?

  2. Do you have Accessibility turned on for Bitwarden?

I’m running Bitwarden 2024.9.0.
I updated to this version recently, as I reinstalled BW to see if it solves the issue. Before I ran the previous version - where the issues appeared first.

If I have accessibility on, my banking app and mobilbankID show up messages I shall deactivate bitwarden.
If I turn accessibility off, these apps work well.

In both cases, autofill in my browser (brave, kiwi) doesn’t work. But it worked until 3 weeks ago.

I might add a little more info regarding Brave browser. Maybe it helps:
Here, I have the flag “Enable the setting to provide a virtual view structure for Autofill” switched to -“Enabled without any compatibility check”.
And in the Autofill options I chose custom / third party apps.
This way, I got the autofill popup in Brave working before.
But as mentioned, that doesn’t work now either.

What do you mean exactly by “autofill in the browser does not work”?

By the way, Android 11 is considered end-of-life since March and should not be used anymore, especially when using banking apps.

Well, normally you get this little pop-up next to the username / password field when using BW to let BW fill in your credentials in an app or browser, right?
That one stopped appearing in my browsers at the same time as my banking apps are staring I shall deactivate BW. If I deactivate “Use accessibility” in BW, my banking apps work at least. But still in the browser, no pop-up appears.

Because accessibility is a feature that banking trojans often exploit to steal people’s information, it’s possible that your banks may have implemented a restriction recently, i.e. if you have apps with accessiblity access, no banking on the device for you.

Some people are able to autofill without accessibility, although it’s unclear why you are having a problem with brave.

Autofill service is available since Android 8, inline autofill since Android 11. They need to be enabled though.

Additionally the Google Password Manager may interfere, so it might help to disable it entirely.
