It’s not possible to enable unlocking with biometrics in the browser. Every time I tick the checkbox it shows me the same message below, even though I’ve already enabled it on Desktop. Quite frustrating to always have to input my master password. I’ve also set the timeout action to “on stystem lock”, but it goes off much more frequently than that. I haven’t locked my laptop in the past 2 hours and have been prompted to input my password at least twice.

Please confirm using biometrics in the Bitwarden desktop application to set up biometrics for browser.
Try disabling then reenabling the browser extension. In Chome, one does this by right-clicking on the extension icon on it, selecting “manage extension” and then momentarily sliding the on/off switch to off.
Same problem for me on MacOS with Chrome, Brave and Firefox, the Awaiting message shows but nothing happening on the Desktop app. I already tried to disable and reenable the extensions, and even reinstalled it.
