But recently with both Firefox and Chrome extensions, after a browser restart it appears to have logged me out and prompts for the master password, which is a pain.
This always used to work so why is it logging me out now on a browser restart?
Unless there is something strange going on in your system, it is not actually logging you out. Do you see a large blue button that says Log in with master password below the master password input field? Or do you see a prompt that says “Verify Identity”, with an Unlock button in the upper right corner? If the latter, then you are not logged out, but Bitwarden is requiring you to unlock with your master password instead of unlocking with your PIN as usual. This is for security reasons.
If you are unhappy with this behavior and if you don’t mind trading some security for the increased convenience, then you can fix the issue as follows:
Disable the “Unlock with PIN” option (under Settings > Account Security).
Re-enable “Unlock with PIN”
On the “Set PIN” screen disable the pre-checked option “Require master password on browser restart”.
Ah tx, that was it.
The reason it foxed me was that the option “Require master password on browser restart” appears to be visible only in the PIN setup dialogue and invisible after the PIN has been set.
Any ideas why this is so as it seems to go against standard UI practice?
