Browser database content different to app/plugin content

Hi, I got a very strange behaviour. My database is in sync on several Android devices and on the chrome extension. But if I access the database directly via the browser url, recently added passwords are not in sync (means different). This is independent from the browser (chrome and firefox) and is the same even on different computers and OS (Windows & Linux).

Any ideas?

Greetings

Carsten

Hi Carsten,

Check last sync time in browser extension (in settings) and on Androids or try to sync them manually. Then refresh your web vault - it should be synced after your manual syncs.
And an obvious thing: are you sure you’re opening web vault for same account, as used in extension and Androids?

Konstantin

Hi Konstantin, thx for your reply. The Browser extension and Android Apps are always in sync (as expected). It is just the browser version.
Example:
I create a new enty called “test”.
The new entry is immidiatly available on the the browser extension, the android app and on the brower (url) version.
But: Some passwords are different on the browser extension & app to the browser (url) version. So I am using the same account, the db is principal in sync (the “test” entry is available everywhere) but some passwords in some entries are different. Very odd

Carsten,

What is happening if you’re updating some password (which is out of date) in browser extension or Android and then check web vault again?
What if doing opposite (change in web, check in Android)?

If that will fix an issue, then try to create new item in extension or Android and check in web.
My assumption under that steps is that the “last updated” timestamp might be incorrect for that not synced items for any reason and you try to update it to force sync

Konstantin

Hi Konstatin, some details for further clarification:

Terms used:
Android app: The native Bitwarden Android App
Browser plugin: The Chrome bitwarden plugin (chrome-extension://)
Browser url: Bitwarden access using the web interface (https://vault.bitwarden.com/#/)

Account testing:
“test” entry is seen on all 3 platforms
Deleted a “test” entry on Android App
“test” entry is removed on all 3 platforms
So I am working on all three platform on the same account and platform

Entry Testing
I am using a entry for which I am sure, that there a problems

Platform Password shown in platform
Android App “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”
Browser plugin “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”
Browser url “BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB”

Now I am changing the password on Android App from “AAAAAAAAAAAAAA” to “CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC”

Platform Password shown in platform
Android App “CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC”
Browser plugin “CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC”
Browser url “BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB”

Oddly: it shows on the Browser url, that I recently changed the password and a new version has been added the history, but the old password is shown

Now I am changing the password on Browser url from “BBBBBBBBBBBB” to “DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD”

Platform Password shown in platform
Android App “DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD”
Browser plugin “DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD”
Browser url “BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB”

So it changes the password on Android and the plugin, but it does not change it on the platform, where I made the change (url)

But: it shows on the Browser url, that I recently changed the password and a new version has been added the history, but the old password is shown

The browser url behaviour is replicable on different browsers (chrome/firefox) and on diffrent computers and platform (3 computers, windows and linux)

Hi Carsten,

Ok, it means that my assumption was wrong.
I don’t have other ideas on how to debug it more.
Probably you need to send this topic to BW support…
