Bitwarden Vault empty on android

I tried using the guides given by Bitwarden as well as Reddit posts, but nothing seems to get my Vault to appear on Android.

I have around 6 entries now which all work on PC.

To clarify. I can go into the app itself and check the Vault, it will show my logins that I have in a folder.
It is when I open the app via prompt when trying to fill a textfield which leads to no entries being visible.

Of course I synced the vault. I also have removed the default google keypass stuff in chrome as well. Enabled all permissions.

Nothing will show my vault, thus I cannot use Bitwarden on my phone at all, which is a major issue and makes me evaluate whether I should stick to Bitwarden or use a different Password Messenger.

I’d like to resolve this issue as I’d like to stick to Bitwarden, apart from the Android issue it’s been a good experience. Does anyone have any tips here?

I now tried NordPass and I was able to autofill apps as well as see them (obviously). It’s an easy choice then and I’ll ditch Bitwarden for Nordpass.

This issue has therefore been resolved. Delete this thread.

What was the solution? Perhaps knowing how to fix it will help the next person that follows in your footsteps.

But I am curious as well what went wrong here. As far as I understood, he saw the vault items but auto-fill didn’t work? Though, it was a bit confusing for me, because “nothing will show my vault” and “it will show my logins” was not very clear to me. Perhaps we’ll never know.

PS: My initial thoughts were about URIs and/or match detection not implemented the right way?

For whoever this may read in the future - the help sites provide good advice, in my opinion (though I’m not sure, if they already take into account the new native mobile apps), especially those three sections:

The solution was ditching Bitwarden for NordPass.

I could use the Bitwarden app on android and check the Vault and it’d contain my saved passwords.

When I wanted to autofill something into an app for example, I’d get the popup above the keyboard in android showing me Bitwarden as an option, which would give me access to my vault. But there were no entries. I’d be able to make a new one, but I already have an entry for this specific website or app, so it would not give me something to use for autofill. So it was mixed signals. I could see my vault entries in the app, when directly accessing the app, or on the website. But via autofill (so using a different app and using the autofill popup that one gets in android, above the keyboard) it would not show me any entries.

NordPass on the other hand did give me a suggestion. I tried Steam for example and NordPass showed me an autofill option.

So again, solution is not using Bitwarden in the first place.

The nice extra is, Nordpass allows you to store multiple websites per entry, so you can make sure to enter multiple domains that might fit this particular account and password combo.

This is not an ad. I’m not an employee or hired by NordPass.
No guide helped me solve the issue I had with Bitwarden and I wasn’t patient enough to wait for help in this forum here, so I quickly checked a different manager and with it not being an issue (for the most part at least) it was an easy to choice to get rid of another buggy password manager.

I cannot emphasize enough how important a first impression and easy-to-use features are.

So if someone from Bitwarden reads this: Now you know why I ditched your tool and thus am not going to pay for a paid subscrition either. So work on that.

Also, here’s another feedback:

This forum itself is great for the most part. But the requirement for a minimum of 2 tags and the tags being this obscure is a deal breaker for UX. I was trying to figure out which tag would fit my issue. I can only use a tag and a sub tag of that tag? What is that supposed to be? And why? I feel like an idiot because it took me a minute to figure out how to properly set a tag and I’m still not sure if I did it correctly.
Awful and not helpful for the normal consumer. Get rid of it.

You can store multiple websites (URIs) per entry in Bitwarden as well. (Using URIs | Bitwarden Help Center)

Yeah, I guess you misconfigured the URIs.

Good luck with NordPass - and don’t ditch it with the first problem!

Looks like you are right. I didn’t notice that. But why call it URI if the entire world knows what a URL is and it makes zero difference for the tool itself, but a lot for a the normal user.

Again, user experience is key. Why make it more complicated than it has to be, even if the 2 levels are almost identical.

NordPass says “Website”. There you go. Simple. Everyone knows what a Website is. It is even simpler than URL which a lot of older folks might not know.

Also, I did not misconfigure the URIs and if I did and did not notice that I did, that’s another fault on Bitwardens side. Why did it work with NordPass the first try?

I’m not trying to hate on this product here, I’m simpling showing the viewpoint of me, the normal user, who tries to use the basic features of this tool. But it is giving me a hard time, so instead of trying to find the issues with me (not using a proper guide or the right guide), adapt to how the user uses a tool instead and make your product better.

I guess Bitwarden doesn’t call it “Website” because you can store there more than just “Websites”.

It’s not “my product”.

Anyway, good luck!
