Bitwarden repeatedly display error : "Bitwarden does not respond"

Hello,

I have an annoying problem on an Android tablet under Android 13. When I start bitwarden, it keeps the showing “Bitwarden does not respond” on Android 13 device". It does so in a loop with a dialog window (close app, wait).

The app is totally unusable as it is coming back every 5s or so.
I checked:

  • wifi is enabled
  • permissions : none refused
  • no data optimisations => bitwarden is granted full data access
  • check battery optimisations/savings : none
  • delete cache
  • uninstall / reinstall / reboot …
  • removed bitwarden launcher from mini-application toolbar

I have checked all settings I could think of but nothing works.
Any idea ?

What Bitwarden encryption are you using and have you changed any of the defaults?

Some encryption settings can be too much for Android devices.

I assume you have no problems logging in on other devices?

Hello. No I did not change any encryption settings and the tablet is new. Other devices are fine (mobile and desktop).

I think it is choking on network connectivity but I cannot see what is wrong.
Anyway thanks for the answer.

RogerDodger is right—it’s most likely a KDF problem. Just switch from PBKDF2 SHA-256 to Argon2id. It worked for me.
