I’m using the latest Opera version (120.0.5543.61) on desktop and have installed the Bitwarden extension (v2025.6.1). However, Opera shows a warning:
“This extension has been identified as malicious and blacklisted. It can no longer harm your computer. You can leave or remove it.”
As a result, the Bitwarden extension is disabled and will not run.
So far I have tried:
Disabling and re‑enabling the extension
Removing and reinstalling it
Restarting Opera
Checking for extension updates
Nothing seems to resolve the issue. Does anybody else face this problem? Is there a known fix or workaround? I rely heavily on Bitwarden for daily password management, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Opera version: 120.0.5543.61 (latest) Bitwarden extension version: 2025.6.1
A Google search reveals that Opera did something similar to an extension named “Tampermonkey” about 5–6 years ago; not sure there was ever a resolution, but there was a temporary work-around that involved toggling the values of parameters named blacklist and blacklist_state in an app data file that contains user preferences. The file location has evidently changed since 2019, so I cannot provide detailed instructions.
I also suggest that you contact Bitwarden’s Customer Support, so that they are at least aware of the issue.
Yesterday, I solved this issue on my home computer by installing the same extension from the Chrome Extensions page. Today, I noticed that on my work computer, the extension had been completely removed by itself. Unlike my home computer yesterday—where the extension was present but appeared broken—here it was fully uninstalled. As a first attempt, I installed it directly from the Opera add-ons page, and this time it worked without any issues.
@cheshim Glad to hear that your issue was resolved. However, reading your previous comment, I am confused as to whether the solution is to install the Bitwarden extension from the Chrome Web Store, or to install it from the Opera add-ons page. It would be good to clarify this for potential future readers of this thread (who may be facing the same issue).
