Bitwarden Not Opening on Android 10

This is not a logon issue. I try to open BW on my android 10 moto g7 and it pops up a Bitwarden keeps stopping: App Info; Close App.

Multiple times I have:
Force stop; uninstall, restart phone, reinstall. Still not working. Any ideas?

Works fine on my W10 Chrome BW account.

Yup, known new issue (with 2025.6.0):

PS: Seems to be only an issue with Android 10 devices.

Ah, and for the moment: you should be able to download and install the previous version 2025.5.0 as an “apk” file - and deactivate automatic updates.

Otherwise, we have to wait until the issue is resolved and we get an updated version.

Things like this will probably pop up more on Android 10. Its kind of old. Android 16 is on Pixels already.

Installed the previous version and that works, thanks but, surely even the most basic testing would have picked this up?

Hi @hicksp0026, I’m sorry to hear you’re having the issue and I understand your frustration. We are still investigating this issue, so please keep an eye on the Github report (linked above) to stay up to date on the fix. :+1:

More generally speaking, all underlying platforms where Bitwarden apps are installed or used (in this case for mobile operating systems) Bitwarden aims to support versions that are currently supported by the vendor.

Thanks for the suggestion but apparently that’s way above my pay grade :frowning:
I clicked on the link but couldn’t find anything ending in .apk and not sure i could install it even if i did find and download it unless it does an automatic install?

If you scroll down there, under “Assets”, all files are listed - and there is also the “apk”:

When you download or copy that to your Android phone, it can be installed there. (I would deinstall the current BW app before doing that)

Thank you very much! I will try!

Assuming i get it installed where do i look to turn off the auto update that was mentioned?

Thanks!

Google PlayStore → choose the BW password manager app → “three-dot-menu” in the upper right corne → deactivate automatic updates

Cool! Would never have thought to look there!

I’m still unable to find the files you showed above. Maybe I’m not going in the right way?
Where you wrote about installing the previous version 2025.0.5 I just clicked on the highlighted version but once at the GitHub i scrolled down but just can’t seem to see any assets folder.

I’m not sure how I can explain it better… if you follow this link: Release Password Manager 2025.5.0 (20269) · bitwarden/android · GitHub → when you scroll down there, the “Assets” may be “collapsed”. When you click on it, it should expand and show all files. Then choose the one I showed in my screenshot.

Just to share my experience: I first cleared the cache and app data, then uninstalled the version that had the issue, restarted the phone, and reinstalled Bitwarden from the Play Store. It automatically installed version 2025.5.0.
So, it seems you might not need to install an APK manually — a clean reinstall from the Play Store might be enough.

Thank you for your patience! I followed your link and after scrolling a looooong ways past all the fixes i did see the assets listed and downloaded and installed it. So far it opens up, so that’s a big improvement. For some reason my Play Store looked much different from your screenshot but i was finally able to uncheck the Enable Automatic Updates box. Thanks again! It’s hard to believe that 30 years ago I was building and selling computers and now feel completely helpless on this phone!

Update:

Mobile app version 2025.6.1 contains the fix for this bug and is now available via the Google PlayStore.

Glad I could help.

But it seems, @josimar_oliveira88 was right – I guess the app version 2025.6.0 was “removed” from the PlayStore in the meantime…

And there is another update: a few minutes ago, Android mobile app 2025.6.1 was released on GitHub. It contains a fix for Android 10.

(–> Releases · bitwarden/android · GitHub)

When the PlayStore skips 2025.6.0 and directly goes from 2025.5.0 to 2025.6.1 (when it arrives there), then you can probably re-enable the automatic updates. Today or in the next days, if you want to be on the safe side.

Thanks! I hope that one fixes things because this version (5) opens but doesn’t do what it’s supposed to. A month or so ago it stopped popping up when i went to log in to my bank account and it’s back to that. At least i can open the app and copy/paste the login/pw and get in! When it crashed i was totally list as there is no way that I could remember all the different generated passwords!

this got me up and running. thanks
