Bitwarden interferes with at least one website

The website https://essopenarchive.org is a preprint archive server for scientists and engineers. In Firefox, some pages on this site have been failing to load altogether and some fail to load completely. After diagnosis, I determined that when the Bitwarden extension was disabled the web site pages loaded normally, but when it was enabled, some website pages would not load normally. These are not login pages. This seems extremely weird. Can anyone give me any insight or suggestions? Thanks, Ben

@blharding Welcome to the forum!

Can you provide an example of a URL that doesn’t load? I clicked around on the website that you linked (using Firefox with Bitwarden enabled), and all pages I clicked on seemed to load without issues.

Regardless, when Bitwarden interferes with website function, it can usually be traced to one of two functions that require scripts to be injected into the web pages as they are being rendered — disabling one or both of these is likely to solve the issue that you’ve encountered:

  • Disable “Ask to Save and Use Passkeys” under Settings > Notifications .

  • Disable inline autofill menus, by setting the “Show autofill menu on form fields” option to “Off” (under Settings > Autofill ).

Thank you, GRB.

I disabled “Ask to Save and Use Passkeys” and that fixed it. Brilliant. Since that did the job, I did not disable “Show autofill menu on form fields”, because I’d like to keep that functionality. I will keep a lookout for this happening on other sites and then try that.

The essopenarchive site is the only one on which I’ve seen this happen so far but, as I said, I will keep my eyes open for another case.

Thanks again,
Ben
