Bitwarden Desktop app not syncing

My desktop app has stopped syncing. I can update an entry on android and it is seen on my android devices but my win11 desktop app still shows the unedited entry. If I try to edit and save on the desktop app I get error “An error has occurred. The cypher you are updating is out of date…”

An attempt to manually sync fails. Any suggestions?

On Windows desktop app, I suggest you do File → Sync Vault
Let us know the result. i.e. What is the error you get?

but you must get to a state where it returns the below

@mike-b Welcome to the forum!

Have you tried logging out of the desktop app and logging back in?

That worked. Thanks a lot!

I am having the same problem with Bitwarden 2023.12.1 on Windows. The only message given is “Syncing failed.” Are there logs somewhere to review? Date/time okay, logged out and back in, etc. Please advise. Thanks!

@shigadeyo Welcome to the forum!

I read a report by one user who said that they had to log out, then reboot their computer, and then log back in. A clean reboot requires either a “Restart” or a “Shut Down”, depending on whether you have “Fast Startup” enabled, so you might want to try both.

Finally, if this problem is occurring in the Desktop app, try logging out, then using the “+Add Account” function in the account switcher (top right corner) to add your account back.

Thanks. I had tried all of that already as well.

I ended up completely uninstalling and reinstalling Bitwarden on Windows and that made it work now.

I had this same problem on Linux/Fedora using Bitwarden as installed through the RPM package. I fixed it by deleting all the cached profile stuff:

Close BW app.
Run:

$ rm -rf ~/.config/Bitwarden/

Reopen and login into BW app.
