Bitwarden Desktop App Autofill Account Email

Is there a preference to NOT AUTOFILL the account email when opening and logging into the Bitwarden Desktop App on Windows? That seems like an added security risk to automatically add that piece of information upon opening the app. Would it not be better to NOT provide that? Or, perhaps, at least give users an option to NOT autofill it.

Hello,

On the Login screen, there is an option not to remember the email.

But if you are prompted with the unlock options on the Unlock screen, Bitwarden already knows the account because you are logged in, so the email will always be listed.

If you are concerned, always “Log out” from the desktop app. But if you don’t share your computer, locking down your computer (such as using BitLocker with a pre-boot PIN) and securing your Windows unlock/login screen may be a more convenient alternative.

If you don’t want the email to show on your Unlock screen, that’s a potential feature request that could be filed.

There is an existing feature request here:

In 2021, there was briefly a glimmer of interest from Bitwarden in implementing this feature (in the form of account “nicknames”), but that initiative evidently fizzled.

Right you are! I guess I never realized that when you close the app, it didn’t log you off automatically, but only locked the vault. The Unlock screen is what I have been seeing, which doesn’t show the option, but displays the email autofilled and at top right. So, I can just log off each time and uncheck the box. Thanks for pointing this out.

I don’t use the app that often, only to do major maintenance where I need a bigger screen. I typically use the FF extension.

Cheers.

Thanks man, I’ll take a look at that as well!
