Issue Description
I’ve set up my own Vaultwarden as an alternative password manager and enabled fingerprint authentication for unlocking.
The Bitwarden desktop application works perfectly with fingerprint unlock. When I click “Unlock,” it brings up the Windows Security Center, and touching my fingerprint immediately unlocks Bitwarden without any lag or issues—very smooth!
However, with the Bitwarden Chrome extension, there’s an inconsistency after restarting my computer. For a short period, the fingerprint unlock works as smoothly as in the desktop app. But eventually, it starts requiring manual interaction.
Most of the time, when using the Chrome extension and attempting biometric authentication, the Windows security window doesn’t appear on-screen. I have to manually move my mouse to click on the window, then touch my fingerprint to authenticate—it’s quite inconvenient.
Here’s a screenshot of my recording showing that the browser extension requires moving the mouse to click on the pop-up first before it can capture the fingerprint:
I’m not sure if this is something on my end or perhaps an integration issue between Bitwarden and Windows Hello. Does anyone else experience similar behavior with the Chrome extension? Am I missing any settings that could resolve this?
I would really appreciate it if someone could share their experience or offer some insight into potential solutions.
Many thanks in advance for your time and support!
