Bitwarden Autofill does not work on Google Sign in on Firefox

I’m having this problem on Google sign in pages with the Bitwarden plug in on Firefox. The autofill feature doesn’t work on Google sign in pages (including the “new” page). It’s rather annoying. The shield appears in the right side of the password/username bars, but whenever I try to autofill, I get a red error message that says “Unable to autofill the selected info on this page…”, so in order to sign to Google or Youtube I have to go into the Bitwarden plug in, select the saved username/password item, copy the password, go back to the sign in page, and copy/paste the password into the password box. This is all in addition to the phone 2FA google makes me do every time I sign in or open up my browser, since I’m clearing cookies automatically when I close my browser.

A pretty simple work-around is to hit the F5 key to refresh the page when you get to the password entry.

If you’re using Chrome, another work-around is to use the Ctrl+Shift+L keyboard shortcut to autofill the password.

Regardless, you have been doing one unnecessary step:

No need to select anything. Just click the account’s :key: icon directly, as soon as you’ve opened the browser extension.

Finally, you can/should report the auto-fill issue using the following form:

Hi @grb, I came here to report the same thing, decided to jump on this thread.

This is a new behaviour (have been using Bitwarden for years), since a couple weeks ago I’d say. I have the same problem Google and with other websites where the autofill of password stopped working on Firefox (haven’t tried other browsers), while it used to before (live.com is another example).

Hitting F5 does not fix the problem, the autofill just does not work (using the keyboard shortcut or the manual click on the item via the extension).

One common denominator I found was that the HTML id of the password input on those sites was current-password. I tried to add a custom field with that name and my password as a value, but no luck.

I would be happy to help solving this one however I can.

You may not be experiencing the same issue then. In OP’s case, @maxrfuller453 is auto-filling using the inline menu (“Show auto-fill menu on form fields”). For the Google sign-in forms (account.google.com), the inline auto-fill menu can be made to appear by reloading the password input page (e.g., using F5). On the account.google.com password entry page, auto-fill can also be done using Ctrl+Shift+L in Chrome (without needing to reload the page), but this work-around does not work for Firefox.

What method are you using to auto-fill on account.google.com in Firfox?

I tried 3 different methods:

  • Cmd + Shift + L (my default approach)
  • Clicking the item in the extension icon
  • Click the “Autofill” option in the item in the extension icon

→ “Unable to autofill the selected info on this page…”

UPDATE: The autofill feature now appears to be working again at the google sign in page on Firefox!
