Unlocking the BW Safari browser extension used to be a one-click action. Click on the icon and then biometric prompt would appear and I would use my fingerprint. Vault would then appear. Simple and clean. Recently, this workflow has added a step and hidden the vault.
Steps:
-click extension icon
-a master PW and biometric screen appears
-click the “unlock w/ biometrics”
-use fingerprint. BW unlocks BUT the extension window closes.
-click on the unlocked BW icon again to open the extension which often gets the vault and sometimes send you back to the Master PW / ‘unlock w/ biometrics’ screen.
The workflow is now a mess, basically make the extension almost unusable unless I just leave the extension unlocked all the time, which I will not do. This behaviour persists whether the BW Desktop app on MacOS is unlocked or not.
Are others experiencing similar degradation in the extension? It used to just work and get out of your way. Now it’s just a nuisance.
You could also lock the extension using a PIN instead of biometricvs, which would be better than leaving it unlocked.
It’s hard to tell from your description, but the issue may be related to a change that was made in late May, as a stop-gap measure to address a security vulnerability that was discovered a few months ago — as a result, biometric unlock in the browser extension has required an unlocked desktop app, ever since that temporary change was introduced. A permanent fix has recently been merged into the code, and should be available in the next release, or so. Hopefully that will take care of what you’re experiencing, as well.
