I’ve had a problem for a while where Bitwarden’s browser extension stops autofilling after my Firefox browser has been open for a while. CTRL-SHIFT-L stops working at the same time too. Restarting the browser fixes it. This has been happening for a few months, at least.
I’ve searched online and on Github but nothing matches the problem exactly and I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem? I know, I know. “Just restart your browser, then.” Part of it is that it’s not that simple to just restart my browser due to my daily workflow, and also… I want it to work.
Hi @SuperLlama, thanks for letting us know! Have you checked your vault timeout settings? Perhaps your vault is going back into a locked state, in which case it would not auto-fill until you unlocked it or logged back in.
Nope, it’s not that. Bitwarden operates properly otherwise. Even when autofill is not working, I can use right-click context menus or click on the extension icon in the toolbar to fill the credentials.
I’ve noticed this too on macOS. It seems like when Firefox automatically updates the Bitwarden plugin in the background, then the Cmd+Shift+L autofill hotkey stops working until Firefox is restarted.
Also, strangely, if you modify the autofill hotkey to something else, it will work without restarting the browser. Then, if you change it back to Cmd+Shift+L (again, without restarting Firefox), the hotkey stops working.
Thank you! I was losing my mind about this bug and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to make my preferred default shortcut work (others still worked, as you say). A restart indeed fixes it.
Could this be a Firefox bug then actually, given that the shortcut API doesn’t seem to be something the extension has control over by itself?
