create a username and password in the bitwarden extension. It may work the first try, but on a browser refresh or restart, it doesn’t work. I’ve tried the CtrlShiftL, and extension’s Fill button
I’d like to help debug this, I’ve looked at the console output but see nothing. I’ve also tried toggling Brave’s “shields” feature, and no change. I’ve tested on Windows 11 with Brave, and Chrome. Same issue I’ve tried on Linux Firefox, same issue.
I’ve also contacted the site administrators, and they indicate no changes on their site that would affect this.
I’ve tried custom field names, but that had no effect (or if it did it doesn’t work anymore).
Great product, thanks for your work. I have a paid account FWIW.
I have confirmed that autofilling doesn’t work. It seems to be because their web designers have decided to insert autocomplete="false" and autocomplete="off" attributes into their forms.
You can notify Bitwarden about these websites using the Autofill Failure Report form, but I’m not sure that there are any viable strategies for overcome this type of problem. You could also reach out to the powers that be at toastmastersclubs.org, and request that they make their website compatible with password managers and accessibility tools.
In the meantime, your best bet is probably to use Bitwarden’s drag-and-drop feature.
Hm. I know that the target is “desktop” here… but I just tried to autofill on https://123.toastmastersclubs.org/ on Brave mobile, and the BW Android app had no issue to autofill on that site. (maybe relevant: the BW app uses Brave via the “autofill integration”)
Do we have an explanation why it works on mobile? (well, at least on Android)
I know little to nothing about the mobile apps, but if I had to guess, I would say that the Android (and presumably iOS, as well) has some native autofill/autotype capability that the Bitwarden app is interacting with (instead of the app directly interacting with the web page).
I’ve contacted the site hosts, and they are not helpful, claiming they don’t offer support for any extensions. I suspect they’re using a third-party login library and don’t know what’s really going on under the hood. (their password-recovery method is to leave the password blank )
It’s strange since the reading I’ve done leads me to think browsers mostly ignore “autocomplete=off”, since they don’t want to discourage password managers. Perhaps whatever library they’re using is doing something else under the surface.
I’ve had no problem using Bitwarden with two major Canadian banks, yet this site is goofy. Oh well.
