In the last week I have noticed some concerning issues.
Autofill from the browser plug-in is failing on most web sites in all browsers (Brave, Edge, Chrome, Firefox)
Auto register is not working, e.g. when I setup my login for Bitwarden Community Bitwarden plugin did not offer to save the username/password.
Usually the browser plugin opens instantly. Now it is taking up to 30 seconds to open the pop-up window.
The system is Windows 10 and all operating system, browser software and plugins are fully patched. Bitwarden is 2024.8.1 and server version is 2024.9.0
Any updates on how to fix the issue without any âcould resolve the problemâ recommendations? Autofill doesnât work on Firefox or Chrome and the suggested âfixesâ donât seem to work either.
I âforcedâ an update to browser plugin version 2024.9.0 and that seems to have fixed the issues. Not entirely sure how I made the plugin update as there was no update button or feature in any of the browsers, I just opened the plugin management page in the browsers a couple of times and, without any notification, the plugin updated.
@OzWonder (and for everyone else), you can also disable and then re-enable the extension to force an update through the extension settings in the browser.
I am experiencing the same problems as others have reported here and it is the same on Brave browser extension and ChromeâŚ
1.) every time browser started it does not log in despite log-out being set to NEVER. however, if you click on the extension badge again (without entering password) it logs in but does not auto-fill on sites or show the badge counter when on a site which has a stored password.
2 ). when landing on a site which has a stored password it does not allow auto-fill and shows the same red panel message as displayed on other posts.
Having seen the post by eck yesterday I can report that disabling the extension in the extension manager and then re-enabling it does solve the problem initially, however if the browser is closed and re-opened the problem persists and the above process has to be repeated,
I also use BW on android devices and there appears to be no problem with those.
Currently using browser extension Version: 2024.9.0 Server version: 2024.9.1
Yes, I observed similar issues with Chrome but, not Edge. Iâm guessing it might be due to the server and browser versions getting out of sync??
Whatever it is, there is enough evidence that something has changed in recent updates that was not an issue before so, hopefully the BW dev team are tacking down whether it is something they changed, or something changed in chromium. Either way, what was a stable and reliable application now is not. Hopefully, it will be again very soon.
Iâm having the same problem, plus it no longer asks to remember new sites. I am evaluating Bitwarden as a potential replacement for my current password keeper. I have had this problem now for several weeks, and support only says this problem will probably be fixed in a future release. This does not give me warm and fuzzy feelings about Bitwarden.
I agree that if a password manager extension doesnât autofill, itâs less useful. However, itâs not like this most of the time. Hereâs an outside developerâs perspective (even if a strong BW proponent) regarding bugs and development processes:
After a brief respite when the updating of the browser app seemed to fix things the problem has returned across all browsers.
Please, Bitwarden fix this very soon. If not, then like others it will be time for me to switch to a new password manager. Bitwarden has been great and I switched to it when LastPass stopped working reliably. Hate to ahve to do that exercise again but, a Password manager that canât autofill and doesnât auto-prompt to save new passwords just isnât any better than a spreadsheet.
I havenât tried the above âfixâ by @tech_alter and I hope it overcomes the problem for users.
However, since my original post I have changed my computer and upgraded to a new system running Windows 11 Home and I am happy to say that the extension works flawlessly in both the pre-installed Microsoft Edge and my own browser of choice, Brave Browser.
Not sure if there is any relevance to this but hope that the Techâs may find this feedback useful in diagnosing the root of the problem.
Regarding number oneâŚI went to settings in my browser (Chrome/for a Windows 10 PC). I hope that is the browser youâre referring to.
Regarding number twoâŚI did not find anything in (Chrome/for a Windows 10 PC) under âSettingsâ or anywhere else that refers to âShow auto-fill menu on form fieldsâ; so the remainder of the instructions are moot.
@scrapser The âSettingsâ when you open the Bitwarden extension window by clicking on the extension icon was meant. (bottom menu of the Bitwarden extension window)
@scrapser You are posting in an old thread about an old bug that was fixed months ago. Iâm not disputing that you may be experiencing some issue that possibly has symptoms similar to those discussed previously in this thread, but since your issue is likely unrelated to the original bug, it would be best if you provide a detailed description of the problem(s) you are experiencing, as well as the version number of the Bitwarden browser extension that is installed on your Chrome browser.
Thank you for the information. I was able to follow the original instructions with that clarification and happy to report it is now working again. The issue that brought me here is that every place I have a login saved to my vault, the autofill stopped working. I just rebuilt a new PC and installed Windows 10 from scratch so Iâm sure that had something to do with it.
There was such a discussion of autofill working, then not working, then working againâŚI thought maybe this was something I was experiencing.
