Autocomplete default username (+random password) when creating new entries (or option in generator)

This is such a simple thing… and I also created an account to register that I am interested. I hope they do this because it’s annoying that it isn’t easier. Almost every username is your email address :woman_shrugging:

Just added my vote. Hope everyone replying to this thread has cast theirs. I agree this feature (specifically autocompleting preferred or frequently used emails/usernames) is too long ignored. Many excellent features and development have taken priority - understandably so - but it really is time for this to happen.

Please add this , it is really annoying having to fill in the username manually every time I create a new entry , please add it

Absolutely would love this feature; would also be great to have some option to pick the prefix for those of us employing catch-all emails e.g. <site/service name>@mycustomdomain.net.

Yes this will be neat and is exactly what I have been hoping to see now being introduced for a long time . Dont understand why such a seemingly easy to implement feature has not been implemented yet for so long .

Edit: My post was moved from a different feature-request

What I would love to see is an email selection. I have the same 3-4 email addresses which I use, and I don’t want to retype them again and again. I just want to save my email addresses once globally in my bitwarden account and then if I add a new login I want to be able to select from my list of email addresses.

Kinda sad to see this was requested so long ago and never implemented.

@Dollique Welcome to the forum!

What you wrote sounds more like this feature request here, so I moved your post. (please protest, if you don’t agree with this)

This is actually not a bad explanation of why this is not implemented. I also found this article from bitwarden which explains how to add email aliases, which are much more secure and kinda achieve this.

I always wondered about the username generator, as I want to keep my username, but it kinda makes sense if you think about aliases.

The problem with mail aliases is that if you loose access to your password manager or forget them you can’t reset your password on most sites as they require you to enter your mail address. You don’t have that much mail addresses to try but a generated alias is impossible to guess.

The solution to this problem is backups. At a minimum, back up with password-protected JSON, which can be imported into KeepassXC.

There are situations where also this isn’t possible e.g. you don’t have access to any of your personal devices but know you mail password.

Encouraging and forcing are two different things.

The police don’t force you to lock you car. Sure, if you choose or forget to lock it, that’s your problem, but no-one is forcing you to lock your car.

This would be really useful for me in the following use case:
I often apply to internships and most employers use myworkdayjobs.com, however each employer has a unique domain on workday eg nike.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com following the format [companyName].wd1.myworkdayjobs.com. This means that I have to create an account for every single one of the companies I apply to that use workday. I prefer to have my real email when applying to jobs(and that is frequently the only option anyways). This feature would save me a great amount of time so that I just pick the email from a drop down. In the past month I have applied to 16 employers that use workday already. It would be a nice quality of life feature. I’m now looking for an open source alternative(if anyone knows any please let me know)

nb. attached links do not work; they’re for illustration only

7 years a later - still a great idea.

It offers the email as a suggestion - but doesn’t actually input it.

Made an account to upvote this and i can’t even vote until I have “trust”? How many people go around making more than one comment/vote on a single product’s community forum

Welcome, @howie (and @nialm) to the community!

“trust” takes maybe 30 minutes of browsing various topics. AFAIK, it was implemented to slow down spammers and bots.

@howie FYI I recently saw a user get their trust level promoted after only 16 min of participation. You do not need to post any comments, just read comments posted by others in various threads.

I accomplish this on iOS by going to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement.

I then add my email as the phrase and @@ as the shortcut.

This is such a good idea, thanks!

I would suggest an autocomplete functionality for the login field, instead of autofill or drop down box.
Field starts empty but as soon as I start typing the first letters of my email it should offer the complete version by hitting the Tab button on clicking on a suggestion tooltip below the field.
