Hi,
As a Roboform user for a very long time and after switching to Bitwarden, I can only agree that this is a very popular and important function and that it would be an enormous enrichment to the Bitwarden application.
I don’t know if January 2nd is too early for a wish …, I would like to have this function for the new year 2022
Many thanks
Kei
Hello,
I recently switched from Bitwarden to LastPass because logging into desktop Applications is possible there (using the LastPass App from the Windows 10 Store).
It is working great and I am glad that I switched!
Best regards
Armin
The OP here has a very valid and grave concern. If Bitwarden’s AutoType feature will only work on applications that give it permission, it is decidedly not
but less universal. (note that there is nothing more universal than a keyboard, which is why Yubikey has that as a fallback)
Since it would be a lie to say you are going to make this more universal, and then have it rely on the receiving apps to implement, give permission, or acknowledge the input in any way, I’m going to take your Sep’20 post as a promise that if the OS API relies on receiving apps this way, that you will allow users the option to still mimic keyboard input. If that was not your intention, feel free to @mention me and tell me what your actual priorities are.
@Narvey My comment about being more universal was in regard to the Operating Systems making auto-filling via password managers more universal, as this is new territory (and APIs…) for both Windows and macOS.
We have not completed a full evaluation of how we plan to approach auto-type at this time but will post more details as we are able to.
+1 for this feature. Our company will move to BW once this is implemented.
I don’t know if it is possible to simulate user keyboard input to achieve this function.
registered just to vote for this. it would make final blow to few of my passwords in keepass
This would be a great feature to have. I would suggest people register their interest in an auto-fill feature being built into their respective OS as well.
For Windows you can open the Feedback App and search “Auto-fill”. There is a request there already but it could certainly use some upvoting.
I used Bitwarden on and off in the past, but I keep switching back to keepass/keepassxc. Same thing happened when I used lastpass. I keep switching back to keepass/keepassxc.
Safe to say this is the one feature that keeps pulling me into keepass/keepasssc. I would love to have this feature in Bitwarden and quite possibly permanently switch.

This is the only feature stopping me from migration from Keepass. I use many desktop applications daily that I have to login to.
LastPass refugee here, just joined, mostly due to their obnoxious change of policy to not allow free users to have both desktop and mobile. Glad I did now that I look at BW overall. Definitely want to sub, but seeing basic, what I would consider almost essential, features like autotype, still not implemented after 2 years of requests…
So, is there an ETC for autotype from BW into desktop applications (not browser)? Ideally it would be available on both Windows (10) and Linux clients. Be a great help to us IT geeks. Cheers guys!
Since this works well on mobile devices, a desktop implementation should also be considered.
+1 for this feature. It would be helpful.
+1 for this feature too…
@tgreer you promised that it won’t be 2 more years, but seeing that this feature was requested since March 2018 let me be sceptical.
You are constantly talking about technical evaluation, but you don’t achieve it. Imho it’s really unprofessional. Just doing the draft evaluation and give a possible ETA is really an absolute minimum in our software industry for client/community highly requested features.
@matbgn - I can definitely appreciate your perspective.
Transparency is very important to us - whether it’s a popular opinion or not. We are not currently working on this feature in any scope, however, the team has expanded ten-fold in the past year, which gives us all confidence that these popular requests will be possible in the not-so-distant future.
Yep I think that’s how Imprivata SSO handles it as you can end up interrupting the flow of ‘typing’ from their service!
They make their money with business and enterprise customers (*) and they are still in the process of growing. If I would be them I also put would prioritize requests from where the money comes from. So be patient and enjoy the enhancements they constantly provide. They also will get there.
Greetings from a paying and very happy Bitwarden customer.
+1 for the ability to fill and save application passwords. I have been missing this feature since leaving Roboform.
I have a RoboForm and BW account.
I’m used to switching between the 2 depending on the use.
A long time RF user, so I have some things that I’m not ready to leave.
Like the pop-up (login tip), for example, for the PIN codes for bank accounts. Where the fill of the password can’t work. Very useful…
